Brief Teacher Biographies
Dr. Lee Benjamins
Lee Benjamins has 19 years experience in the field of education. In addition to 3 years as a WHAP instructor he has taught APUSH, APUSH-Dual Credit, and AP US Government & Politics (APGOV). Dr. Benjamins also worked for the College Board as an AP Reader (grading AP essay exams) for WHAP, APUSH, and APGOV. He previously taught at MHS from 2008-2012. Additionally, Dr. Benjamins taught at Texas Southern University, Lone Star College, Houston Community College, Highland Park High School in Dallas, The Kinkaid School, and served as the Assistant Director of Social Studies in the Division of Curriculum at the Texas Education Agency. He has published reviews in the Journal of Southern History, the Journal of African American History, The History Teacher, and Men and Masculinities. Currently he has a book manuscript under consideration by the University of Virginia Press and an article under review with the journal American Nineteenth Century History. Dr. Benjamins earned a Ph.D. in History and a Certificate in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at the University of Houston, an M.A. at Southern Methodist University and his B.A. at Texas A&M. Ms. Kyla Hutson
Kyla Hutson begins her second year at MHS and her first as a WHAP teacher. She graduated from Concordia University-Texas where she received a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education- Social Studies. While attending Concordia, she played college basketball, going to the NCAA Tournament during her 3rd year. After playing, she stayed at Concordia to help coach the basketball team for another year. In addition to teaching her favorite subject, Ms. Hutson also coaches basketball and cross-country.

Mr. Glen Walton
Glen Walton, in addition to teaching WHAP, is the Chair of the Social Studies Department. He has been in public education for over twenty years. Nineteen of those years have been spent as an Advanced Placement teacher for most Social Studies courses. Mr. Walton is a graduate of Louisiana State University, with a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Education. He began his career in Tulsa Oklahoma, where he was awarded Tulsa Teacher of the Year and was finalists for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year 2000. Prior to his career in education, Mr. Walton served in the United States Marine Corps.
